Shhhhh…
My son and I are playing hooky today.
Actually he hasn’t been feeling very good all week.
But he could be at school.
He just needed a “rest” day, a “mental health” day.
I was happy to oblige.
I think he’s exhausted from being on the go so much.
Tired and dehydrated and worn out.
From School and Little League and Scouts and life.
So we’re playing hooky today.
Shhhhh…
I needed a mental health day too.
Work is stressing the shit out of me.
I won’t bore you with the details.
But it’s like pushing a boulder uphill.
You push it up a little.
Then you wait to see if it rolls back to where you started.
Then you wait some more.
And time ticks away.
Its wearing me down.
Down, down, down.
I need some closure on the whole situation.
To move on.
To whatever is next.
So we’re playing hooky today.
Shhhhh…
I get to go on a date with my wife tonight!
With some other adults and without the kids.
I’m looking forward to that.
But right now it’s just us boys.
We’re not doing anything very exciting.
Remember, he is “sick”.
Besides, its Friday the 13th.
Best to be home where its safe.
Away from black cats and ladders and such.
Except there are two black cats living in the house.
Actually one is kind of grayish.
Of course, I don’t believe in superstitions.
I do believe in mental health days though!
You should too!
Happy Friday the 13th!
Good for you guys! Enjoy your “sick” day!
Thanks Melissa, it’s been fun!
I didn’t know you worked for the Sisyphus Corporation – you gotta find another job! Enjoy your day (we won’t tell).
Haha, thats funny! I remember your post about that company!
love a good hooky day. when we were kids we got hooky day a school year. my sister would always use hers early…I saved mine until it was almost the end of the school year when the weather was nice.
now that I am all grown up, still need a “mental health” day on occasion.
New to your blog, really enjoying it.
The Mommy
Hi Mommy, thanks for visiting. That’s a good idea, to give the kids one day a year. Might have to implement that!
I want to play hooky too.
Hope you had a great date night!
“Mental Health Days” are awesome…we take them once in a while too…
Hope your work situation improves soon, Steve, and that you guys had fun on your Date Night last night…
Wendy
Yes we had a good time. It’s funny though, we were with a bunch of friends so we barely spoke to EACH other.
Bravo! This time of year
I wish more of my students
were playing hooky because
my hooky time is already
used up. Hooky is a fun
word to say and do.
Good for you!
Hang in there, the year is almost up!!
My grandma used to pick me up early from daycare and tell me we were “playing hooky.” I blame her for all the classes I skipped last semester.
Just kidding. Everyone needs mental health days now and then! I think we push ourselves way too hard trying to do everything at once. (And now I’m sounding like an old lady, speaking in generalizations, so I’m going to end this comment…).
Those grandma’s can be rebellious types!
I have never heard of that. Ever. It sounds awesome though. Think we can have a few of those a year. Is it known by any other name? I wander how many others had a hooky day on Friday the 13th?
xx
Hooky is just one of those slang words for skipping school. I am sure the kids in SA have their own words for that. Occasionally it translates into the working world as well!
I play hooky every day! (It’s my actual last name!)
You are a lucky man!
